Brief overview of Devika:
Name: Devika Gadhavi
Meaning: “little goddess”
Age: 105 years
PB: Anushka Shetty
Brief History: Devika is the pampered youngest daughter of a wealthy businessman. She has several older brothers and an older sister, all married, all with children. Her mother still fusses over her and worries that she will never marry, despite only just being old enough to do so.
Her father allowed her to enter the world and explore humanity for herself with a few caveats. She checked in every evening, and she never did anything improper. The latter is a bit more forgiving in what she does, and Devika takes advantage of it.
She is most interested in the latest technology and tries to keep up with it. Her father believes in education, especially for women, and she attended university, graduating with a degree in computer science. It’s something that she uses to keep up on all the latest fads.
Her family is wealthy, and she has no reason to work, though she does, occasionally, pick up freelance work here and there, something to give her more spending money, if she wishes.
Tamil by birth, Devika’s family currently lives in the UK, having moved there when she was a child. As such, she’s fluent in Hindi, Tamil, English and speaks a smattering of French from school. Her education also included how to control her abilities, and she’s in full control of them and has been since she was a child.
She’s currently exploring the world and enjoying herself.
Brief Personality: Devika is a spoiled little rich girl with a compassion that is larger than most. She cares deeply for people that cross her path, believing they have done so for a reason – even if that reason is just to color her day a bit differently.
She enjoys life is really the only way to put it. Everything is an adventure to her, even the drudgery of work. In everything can be found joy, and joy can be found everywhere. It’s a philosophy she lives by.
Devika enjoys helping people out. She won’t do things for them, but she will give them a hand up. She volunteers her time helping people learn computer skills, and tutors children as well as adults in computer literacy.
Thanks to her time teaching others, Devika has learned not to take flack from others. She doesn’t have time for it and if they want her time, they can treat her with the respect that she treats them. Devika has flat out walked out of a classroom because the students refused to behave themselves.
This is not the most professional manner to act in, but it is her chosen path.
One other thing she enjoys is her powers. If she trusts someone enough to show her powers to them, she will constantly use them. If given half a chance, Devika will show off everything from her ability to light fires to the fact that she can shapeshift into what looks like a hellhound.
Devika does worry about the consequences of her actions but she often worries about them after the fact. She’ll take responsibility for it, but she can never quite figure out where it all went wrong.
Powers:
Shapeshift: She shifts from human to a dog that drips with fire. It's about the size of a German Shepard but denser in muscle. The canine form weighs about what she does.
Fire: Being an Ifrit, Devika can play with all sorts of fire in all sorts of forms, from warm coals, to raging infernos. The infernos still give her trouble, and she can't just stop them, but she can, sometimes, redirect them.
Heat: Devika runs warmer than most other people. Because of this, hypothermia is a much higher temperature. She dislikes England in winter because of this.
Brief Ifrit overview:
Ifrit – n. A being of fire from Islamic myth, stronger than men or spirits.
The Ifrit used to live like desert nomads, wandering from watering hole to watering hole, with their camels, and their families. Often, they married into human clans, or the humans came to marry them.
Ifrit mature much more slowly than humans. Though, physically, they might look like they are mature, it is considered taboo to marry an Ifrit before they are a hundred years old. They cling to the old ways even in modern culture, allowing only the chief of the tribe to approve marriages.
They can shift into beings of fire, and take on several other forms: Dogs, winged humans, or a simple human. Fire is their element and they control it absolutely within a few feet of their body. They can communicate through fire with one another. Speak into a fire, say a name with Intent, and they can speak to the other if they are near a fire.
Ifrit can be subjugated. However, it takes a powerful holy man, wizard sorcerer or warlock to do so. They also must be constantly held in check, because if given the chance, an Ifrit will lash back on the “master” and teach them that fire burns.
They are faster and stronger than humans. They also can use fire to move from one area to another. This was particularly useful when humans used fire for heating and cooking. In modern times it is not nearly as convenient.
They are considered a part of the djinn, and are not known for their magnanimous natures. Like the djinn, they can be summoned through rituals and spells lost to the annals of time.
